Athens vs. Tuscaloosa

The topic sparked my mind as many of us head to UGA for the upcoming weekend. As much as I love Panic, Georgia girls, and all of the others bags of fun found in Athens, I feel its time to reiterate a fact that should be understood by everyone in the Southeast: Georgia sucks compared to Alabama. Lets first take football, since theres no reason talking about anything else this time of year. If you have gone to the University of Georgia in the past century and a half, there are a whopping possible two years where you could have witnessed a national championship caliber team playing 'between the hedges'. Fans in Bryant Denny have watched an entire decade more natonal championship teams. You can harp on the bars and 'live music' all you want, but the unfortunate fact about Athens is that it is a dying pseudo developed southern city that lacks infrastructure and any real future. Athens will forever be the armpit of Atlanta, with no particular benefit whatsover to attract any growth over its northwestern counterpart. Tuscaloosa, with a University growing extensively every year, a multibillion dollar Mercedes plant, and a position on one of the most travelled interstates in the nation (anyone who has driven to Athens, particularly on a game weekend knows how much of a bitch it is), Tuscaloosa only has room to grow. And to top it off, while the Georgia Theater is being rebuilt after being destroyed by a fire, just so it can headline P-Groove and Mamma's Love, we'll be watching Tribe and the Black Crowes all in the coming months at the Bama Theater.
